#Everybody Eats: Squad Philanthropy with @ColdGameKelv

Some students balance schoolwork with hobbies or a part-time job. Others, like 18-year-old Kelvin Peña (@coldgamekelv), find time to convert internet fame into social good. “I’m like part philanthropist, part college student, part deer whisperer,” says the New York City native.

Kelvin started filming himself feeding, befriending and even playing basketball with a family of deer near his house. His videos went viral in three days — but when viewers started asking how they can help, he saw an opportunity to flip the script.

“I realized that I can make a difference by setting an example,” says Kelvin. “I was like, I can handle the deer; let’s help other people, and let me start with my community.”

Inspired by the internet’s reaction to his videos, Kelvin founded #EverybodyEats, a nonprofit that sets up local food, clothing and toy drives. This week, he’s putting together a Christmas brunch and gift giveaway for underprivileged families in New York.

“Everybody Eats means making sure the people around you are comfortable. It’s about being selfless and saying, ‘Me and you, we’re in this together.’”
