Reading a magazine, driving down the road, halfway through a daydream — these are all places where future lyrics have come to singer-songwriter Kelsea Ballerini (@kelseaballerini). “The reason I love songwriting so much is it’s ever changing. There’s never one set way. It just hits you. However a song is supposed to happen, it will happen.” Since her Grammy Awards (@recordingacademy) nomination for Best New Artist, Kelsea hasn’t stopped moving, but despite being away from home, she loves touring. “It gives you a chance to see firsthand that your music matters,” says the 23-year-old who lives in Nashville. “To see a little girl in the very back row of this 2,500-seat theater singing a song I wrote for my record that hasn’t been on the radio — that was something that I hadn’t experienced yet. It was really validating as a new artist to know that I have that connection and that impact with that audience.”
