On a Moroccan Adventure with Veronica Hamlet and the Semikah Textiles Crew

“Unlike a lot of people, I didn’t dream of being an interior designer my whole life,” says Veronica Hamlet (@hamletinteriors). In 2014, the Grand Rapids, Michigan, resident found her calling after she and her husband purchased their first renovation property. “During that process, I realized how much I’m inspired by interiors — the way the light shines into a room, the juxtaposition between modern and traditional and making my home a place of rest.” A year later, right after opening her online shop, Semikah Textiles, Veronica connected with photographer Carley Summers on Instagram. Without ever meeting in person, they decided to go on a sourcing trip to Morocco, documenting their journey along the way.

“The kindness of Moroccan culture is unlike any place I have been in the world — and I have done a fair share of traveling,” says Veronica, who now with Carley and two other friends, Paige Morse and Meredith MacDougall, are on their fourth sourcing trip to the region. “We’re staying with our Berber friends and learning the culture, which is a very important aspect in the heart and motivation behind Semikah Textiles. It’s really about the people, at the end of the day. Relationships remain the driving force behind our business.”
