Staying Proud and Thriving with Casey Hoke

It’s June, and in many countries that means it’s time to celebrate #Pride2017. All month long, we’ll be sharing stories from the diverse LGBTQ community members from around the world, like Casey.

For Casey Hoke (@caseycreates), pride is all about resilience and community. “I love decking myself out in rainbows and trans-pride memorabilia, but I also find pride in that history of resilience and in learning about leaders before me,” says Casey, a student, artist and activist. “I just turned 20 last month and I’m still constantly growing and evolving in my trans-masculine identity,” he explains. “I didn’t think pursuing a career would be a plausible future with all of the negativity I saw in coming out five years ago. Now, even though I produce resources to help other folks, and even though I may look ‘confident and polished,’ I’m still learning, and sometimes even still struggling, to understand what I’m doing like anyone else! But with the confidence and help instilled by all the communities I hold dear in the places I’ve dwelled throughout the United States, I encourage everyone to keep moving forward in their most comforting identities.”
