Conquering Canadian Cold with Style Blogger @misslionhunter
This story is part of #🇨🇦 ❤, a new series celebrating people all across Canada.
When she first arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, from Harare, Zimbabwe, as a student 16 years ago, Musemo Handahu (@misslionhunter) couldn’t believe the temperatures she encountered. “Each winter, I ask myself why I’m in this cold country,” says Musemo, a writer and style blogger who goes by Mo. “But secretly, I love the challenge of walking downhill after a snowstorm.” And Mo will never tire of Halifax’s harbor views: “Zimbabwe is a landlocked country. Each morning I still get giddy about the smell of the water and seeing cargo ships.” Mo describes Canadians as kind to the core, especially when it comes to immigrants. “Moving to a new country is daunting, but it is made a lot better when you are welcomed with compassion,” she says.
Since building her life in Canada, Mo has dedicated more and more time to her blog. “It’s always been a place where I share a piece of myself with my internet family,” she says. “I dream of creating a bigger platform that connects Africans and shares stories of our contributions to the world.”
