Taking on Wimbledon with Tennis Player Andy Murray

This year, tennis player Andy Murray (@andymurray) is walking into his 12th Wimbledon tennis tournament (@wimbledon) as the defending champion and world’s top ranked player — but it hasn’t gone to his head. “It’s a great feeling, but my ranking isn’t something I focus on too much,” says Glasgow, Scotland-born Andy, who is the only British man to win more than one Wimbledon singles title since 1935. “But I love playing in front of a home crowd, and at Wimbledon I know they are always behind me from the minute the match starts.”

The tournament is held on the outdoor grass courts of the All England Club in southwest London, where it has taken place each year since 1877. “I love all the traditions of the championships,” says Andy. Players wearing all white clothing, the British royal family attending the matches, the all-night line to get day-of tickets into the matches — “all these are what make Wimbledon the unique tournament that it is,” he says. And as for choosing between a Pimm’s Cup or a bowl of strawberries and cream, for Andy, the answer is simple: “Strawberries and cream, always!”
