Two separate leak sources have delivered the first live photos of the assembled iPhone 8.
The first image comes via Dutch website Techtastic which shows both the front and back of the iPhone 8 and, as you can see, there's no clear indicator of a Touch ID fingerprint scanner anywhere.
Either Apple did manage to get it under the display glass after all and the whole "we couldn't do it" thing was a big red herring (unlikely), it's in the side-mounted power key (also unlikely, according to some sources), or most likely at this point Touch ID has been retired and will be replaced with either 3D laser face scanning or iris scanning, or some combination thereof.
The second set of images come via both 9To5Mac and Macrumors alongside information from KGI Securities analyst Ming-chi Kuo who, contrary to his earlier predictions, now states that the iPhone 8 will launch alongside the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus during Apple's September launch event.
He goes on to add that the handsets will be available to buy inside the same month, although the iPhone 8 is still believed to be arriving in limited numbers; about 2-4 million units by the end of that launch month. Production is pegged to ramp up in the subsequent months of 2017 but Kuo warns that supply may be short even going into 2018.
The sources reveal the iPhone 8 will support fast charging and wireless charging but may require both a USB Type-C adaptor and wireless charging pad as additional purchases to access these features. It's also said that all the iPhone models will come in black, silver, or gold colour options, and these are depicted on the iPhone 8 handsets leaked in the images. You can tell it is the iPhone 8 due to the vertical dual-camera array.
