OPPO Leverages Bollywood AND Cricket For MEGA Indian Sales

OPPO, a BBK brand, is one of the biggest Android players on the market, and it now has its sights set fully on India

You might not have heard of OPPO, an Android phone brand from the same company that owns OnePlus, but that doesn’t really matter because it is still one of the biggest handset makers on the planet.

OPPO is bigger than LG, Sony, BlackBerry, even Google itself, thanks to its diverse lineup of well-priced, brilliantly useful Android phones.

The company has had a lot of success in its native China, as well as the UK and Europe, through resellers like GearBeat and Amazon, and is now looking to India for some truly EPIC growth in 2017/18.

So how does a phone brand break into India with a bang? Simple: you implement two key aspects of Indian culture into your marketing campaign: cricket and Bollywood.

Will Yang, brand director at Oppo India told The Drum, the company has focused on entertainment and sports as part of a 360-degree marketing & branding strategy.

"As a brand, we believe in being present across all channels and reaching out to our target consumers - the Youth. We have explored categories that touch base with the hearts of Indian consumers like Bollywood, cricket, and entertainment. We will continue with the same with a strong focus on entertainment and sports platforms.”

"The whole country connects with entertainment and cricket, especially the youth. Hence, all our activities are focused towards them, whether it be our brand ambassador being Deepika Padukone or being sponsors of the Indian cricket team."

India is a truly MASSIVE market for phone makers. Relatively untapped at present, thanks to a slowly developing mobile network infrastructure, India, once said infrastructure is in place, will be a HUGE market for phone sales going forwards.

This is one of the reasons why Apple is focusing a lot of its energies on the market. It is also rumored to be prepping an iPhone SE 2 release just for India, with current rumors suggesting the handset will also be built there too.

OPPO makes a ton of Android phones, but some of the most notable are its OPPO F3 Plus, OPPO F1 and the OPPO R7 Plus, which pack in great specs, solid design, and, most importantly, exceptionally low pricing.
