BlackBerry’s last handset, the KEYone, was a great handset through and through. The keyboard was decent, the camera was excellent, and BlackBerry’s command of Android continues to show plenty of promise.
The company released a new “Black Edition” of the handset at IFA 2017 and featured more storage and more RAM, as well as a completely black exterior. But this is something we’ve already kind of experienced; the next BIG THING coming is the BlackBerry KRYPTON.
The BlackBerry KRYPTON looks to be BlackBerry’s next major release. It’ll be a touchscreen affair with bumped-up specs and a new, fresh design. Not much is known about the handset just yet, but it has passed through FCC filing.

The BlackBerry KRYPTON is expected to land in October and will join the Google Pixel 2, iPhone 8, iPhone X, and Galaxy Note 8 in Q4’s extraordinarily competitive marketplace.
In terms of specs, not much is known about the handset’s specs, though we can expect a similar, excellent camera as found inside the KEYone, a decent amount of RAM, Android Oreo, and plenty of storage – though it’ll likely top out at 128GB.
The handset, at least to me, appears to be the natural heir to the BlackBerry Z30’s throne, though this time there will be no BB10 action. Finger’s crossed BlackBerry manages to get Android Oreo locked in for release.
I’d also REALLY like BlackBerry to keep the BlackBerry KRYPTON brand name as well; KEYone and DTEK are just about the worst names for a phone that I have ever heard. And this sucks, because BlackBerry’s codenames – Rome, Venice, Argon – are always really cool-sounding.
