Celebrating the Power of Halloween Makeup with Artist Daniel Ruiz Smith

For the past two years, freelance makeup artist Daniel Ruiz Smith (@danielzrotfl) has challenged himself to create 31 separate Halloween looks during the month of October. The characters range from ghastly and grotesque to ethereal and charming, but the transformation is beyond skin deep. “When you put a face on you are another person,” says the 24-year-old Arizona native, who is based in Los Angeles. “You can change whatever type of character you’d like to be depending on what makeup you have on. You can be whoever you want — and that’s a confidence boost.” This weekend, Daniel took his talents back to his home state to do Halloween makeup at #FestivalOfRainbows, a party thrown by one•n•ten (@onentenphx), a LGBTQ and homeless teen resource center.
