Five SOLID iPhone X Alternatives For 2017/18

The iPhone X release date is FAST APPROACHING but Apple’s new iPhone isn’t the only game in town during Q4

The iPhone X is the first, proper new iPhone from Apple since 2014. Yes, Apple has updated its iPhone lineup every year, but of the most part, you wouldn’t be able to tell the iPhone 6 from the iPhone 7.

All the big changes to iPhones between 2014 and 2017 happening under the hood. Apple updated core elements like the camera tech, the CPU, and the amount of available RAM. It also added in more storage, wireless charging, and water and dust resistance.

The iPhone X is the first time Apple has changed the physical design of its iPhone though – and the is significant. Why? Simple: new iPhones tend to sell very well and have in the past instigated what analysts call a SUPER-CYCLE, whereby Apple shifts ungodly amounts of its new phone.

The last super-cycle was the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and now, almost four years later, we’re on the cusp of a new one. Or… are we?

You see, for me, I cannot get around the price the iPhone X; it’s just too damn expensive. I love phones. LOVE THEM. But paying £1000/$1000+ for one, even for me, seems a little too much. I mean, this is basically laptop/ultrabook money you’re talking about.

The other issue I have is that there is nothing technically NEW inside or on the iPhone X. Sure, it has a new design and an OLED display, but so what? Tons of Android phones have new designs and OLED displays and have done for years.

In fact, the iPhone X, more than any other iPhone release, is more like an Android phone than ever before. Only the iPhone X will cost you A LOT more money than an Android phone…

Which leads me to the point of this article: what are the best iPhone X alternatives you can buy right now? Below, listed in no particular order, are ALL the phones I would 100% get over Apple’s iPhone X.

LG V30

This is EASILY one of my favourite phone releases of 2017. The handset packs in some of the best new specs and features around and the overall design and finish of the handset itself are superb.

It also costs less than the iPhone X, packs in an HD DAC for epic-sounding audio, and has one of the best cameras in the business. If you’re after a phone that is truly a big step forward with regards to performance, design and specs, the LG V30 should be HIGH on your list.

Google Pixel 2 XL

The Google Pixel 2 XL is most likely the phone I will upgrade to in 2017 and use for the next 12 months, in between testing handsets, obviously.

I’ve used the Google Pixel XL for 12 solid months now and I love that phone to bits. The camera is great, the software is awesome, it gets Android updates as soon as they land, and the battery is one of the best around.

The Google Pixel 2 XL essentially takes everything that made the Pixel XL great and just adds in MORE. The camera has been improved, the display is better, the design is more engaging, it comes with better storage options, and the price is less than Apple’s iPhone X.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and/or Samsung Galaxy Note 9

This is a no-brainer. If you’re talking about the iPhone X and you’re on the fence about what phone to get, the next phone you think of will likely be one made by Samsung.

And its latest two phones, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 9, are basically two of the best phones in the business right now. Yes, they are expensive, but once you unbox them you will know where all that money went.

Samsung is the engine of the smartphone space now. It sets the pace, and everybody else is basically playing catch up. The only reason I don’t tend to use Samsung phones is that I don’t like its software or waiting for Android updates.

Everything else, however, is flawless.

OnePlus 5

If you’re after exceptional value for money, great specs, lovely design, and plenty of bang for your buck, there really is only one name in town – OnePlus.

The OnePlus 5 is the company’s latest flagship phone and it is the cheapest option on this list.

You can pick one up for around 40-50% less than the RRP of an iPhone X and when it comes to overall performance and specs, you won’t really be able to tell the difference.

The handset features an excellent camera, great software, masses of RAM, decent storage options, and is such good value for money, that if you’re looking to go the SIM-free route, you NEED to be looking at this handset.

OnePlus changed the game a few years back, and the company’s phones are still a force to be reckoned with in 2017/18.
