Oculus has revealed the Oculus Go, as well as more info on the Santa Cruz Project and a price cut for the Oculus Rift

Oculus has just made a handful of interesting announcements. First of all, the Oculust Rift has just had a new price tag of $400, making it much more affordable than it was.

However, Oculus has also revealed an even more affordable and less fussy option for those interested in VR - the Oculus Go. The Oculus Go is a standalone VR headset, meaning you don't have to faff setting it up with an expensive high-performance PC, or even a smartphone. Nope, it runs entirely independently with its own display, CPU, and storage built-in. And it only costs $200.

During the reveal, Oculus said that the Oculus Go will run on the Gear VR (Samsung's headset) catalogue of apps and games. Android and Google's Daydream catalogue wasn't mentioned, but also wasn't ruled out.

It comes bundled with a single motion controller, similar to the Daydream View, with a touch panel and trigger input.

The internal display is a 2,560 x 1,440 pixel LCD and the headset comes with built-in speakers, although there is a headphone jack if you want to use your own hardware.

The Oculus Go is similar to the Daydream View in being made from technical fabrics, making it flexible and compatible with spectacles, it's expected to hit the market in early 2018.

Oculus also gave some new info on its other project - code-named Santa Cruz - a wireless stand-alone headset that will be more powerful than the Oculus Go.

As well as being wireless, it will also use two new motion controllers similar to the original Oculus Rift, however, unlike those it doesn't need external tracking devices, making the setup and operation much simpler.
