The Core of Isadora Kosofsky’s Work is a Sense of Responsibility
Isadora is one of this year’s recipients of the Getty Images (@gettyimages) Instagram Grant. The grant supports photographers who use Instagram to document stories from underrepresented communities around the world.
Los Angeles native Isadora Kosofsky (@isadorakosofsky) documents stories of the unseen, the lonely and the often overlooked. “I started writing to juvenile detention centers when I was 15,” says Isadora. The now 24-year-old photojournalist finds empathy, patience and a sense of responsibility at the core of her work. “I spend much more time listening than photographing,” she says. “It’s about asking questions and just leaving space for people to feel.” Her aim is to humanize her subjects. “Even in the most difficult moments working intimately with people, I feel responsible for the story — a story has the power to bring people together, and it has the power to heal,” she says.
