The iPhone X costs £1000 SIM-free, so it goes without saying that you'll want to clad the device in some kind of protective case to ensure it remains in pristine condition and doesn't smash into a million tiny pieces (each worth a few quid) if you accidentally drop it. With that in mind, we've sourced five of the best cases available right now to make your purchasing decision that little bit easier.
Olixar X-Ranger Survival Case – £19.99
This rather rugged-looking case comprises of a rubber inlay protected by a hard plastic shell, the two of which work together to provide an excellent degree of overall protection – the rubber part runs around the edge of the screen and means even if you place the phone face down, it's not going to get scratched. However, the X-Ranger case's true USP is the fact that it conceals a credit card-sized tool which can be used to measure things, unscrew nuts and bolts, open bottles and much more besides. The is hidden inside a compartment on the back of the case when not in use, which is quite handy indeed.
Prodigee Undercover Case – £29.99
Like the X-Ranger case, this product has some hidden talents. The main body of the case is made from a hard black polycarbonate which should protect against bumps and scrapes. The silver section on the back not only looks neat, it slides downwards to reveal a compartment in which you can store items like your credit card, extra SIM cards and even the SIM card ejection tool. It's a cool feature which doesn't bulk out the size of your phone too much.
Urban Armor Gear Plasma Case – £29.99
UAG's line of cases has a distinct style which is uniform across the entire range, making this something of a design classic. The hard plastic is two-tone – there's a clear section surrounded by a black section around the edges, with a silver UAG logo in the middle. The company prides itself on its rigorous testing – this case is apparently robust enough to meet military standards – yet it's incredibly lightweight and doesn't add too much bulk to the handset. At £30 though, it's not cheap.
Ghostek Exec 2 Wallet Case – £19.99
This is another case which apparently is sturdy enough to please military experts. The plastic sides are covered in what Ghostek calls a "diamond grip" texture to prevent accidental slippage during use, while the back has a fabric-like material which gives it a touch of class. The biggest selling point is the wallet section on the rear which has room for up to five cards. It's perhaps an acquired taste but we found it quite handy to have our cards and ID with us at all times.
Olixar ExoShield Tough Snap-On Case – £9.99
This is a no-nonsense (and cheap) case option for those who simply want to protect their investment without covering it up too much. The case is entirely transparent, with a solid plastic back surrounded by a softer, TPU-like chassis. It makes the phone feel more "squared off" around the edges than normal, but we found this to be a bonus as it makes it easier to hold. The TPU material creates a bumper around the screen so you don't have to worry about marking it when you lay the iPhone X face-down on a table.
