The Apple TV 4K is proving very popular. According to reports, there is a 4-5 week delay for all Apple TV 4K 64GB units. And Apple is not saying why.
Normally, a big-ass delay like this usually happens when a product is about to be refreshed, however, the Apple TV 4K only just launched, so that theory’s out the window.
What’s more likely is that Apple grossly underestimated demand for the 4K version of its popular Apple TV device, and is now playing catchup.
The 32GB model, however, is still available, so if you’re desperately after one, you could just go for that model. The nature of the device means internal storage isn’t a massive deal, though, personally, I’d always rather have more when it comes to storage.
The latest Apple TV 4K units support 4K, obvs, as well as HDR video playback with prices starting at $179 in the US and £179 in the UK.
Designed to do battle with the likes of Amazon’s Fire TV devices and Google’s Chromecast Ultra, the Apple TV 4K is considerably more expensive than both, but it does feature plenty of useful stuff – especially if you’re an iOS-powered household.
On top of this, Apple’s nascent plans to build-up a Netflix-style business around the device are ongoing with reports the company will spend around $1 billion on original content inside the next 12 months.
I have like a zillion things I’d love to see made into an epic, multi-season TV show. I mean, could you imagine if Apple did something akin to House of Cards with something like The Stand or The Dark Tower Series of books?
$1 billion buys you a lot of talent and options, so whatever Apple does with its TV plans, it should be reasonably epic.
