Essential has updated its PH-1 flagship smartphone, aka the Essential Phone, with a new software patch to the camera app. When updated, said camera app will now feature a Portrait Mode, similar to what we've seen on the iPhone X and a few other high profile flagships recently.
As well as this new capture mode, the update also adds reduced .JPEG compression which will improve image quality for your captured photos. Exposure compensation has also been added to improve things as well and will apply to all camera capture modes old and new.
Finally, the patch also adds some stability tweaks and fixes to make everything run a little better.
Essential's devs revealed the update via a Reddit AMA Q&A session, but in addition the team also said its Android Oreo Beta V2 will be rolling out next week.
If you own an Essential PH-1 you can update the camera app via Google Play now.
