The Nokia 8 has now begun its update rollout process to bring the handset up to Android 8.0 Oreo. Users in Poland and Finland were first to see the over-the-air update landing, according to posts on the XDA Developers forums. Devices with model numbers TA-1004 and TA-1012 are part of the first wave, which was confirmed by HMD Global exec Juho Sarvikas on Twitter.
The software update brings the build up to version V4.35J; it's a 1.5GB download which you need to pull down via Wi-Fi.
In the changelog, the list of tweaks includes the addition of picture-in-picture features, notification dots, and the Google November security patch, as well as optimisatons to the boot-up speed for the phone, tweaks to the autofill password features, and security updates for Google Play Protect.
Users have commented that YouTube works really well in the picture-in-picture mode, meaning you can watch videos and browse the web simultaneously.
The update should be rolling out to other regions as you read this. Sarvikas says the plan is for everyone to be updated within two days, although this can only be guaranteed for unlocked handsets, as he says that although builds for carrier handsets are rolling out too, if any carriers want to review the update it might delay it for some users by a week.
