OnePlus 5T Camera Reviewed Ahead Of Launch

A German website has reviewed the OnePlus 5T camera already, finding some distinct differences from the OnePlus 5

It seems that quite a few reviewers who are getting hold of their OnePlus 5T samples early are breaking the emargo - first we had a Youtube unboxing, and now a German website has posted an early review of the phone's camera.

There's an interesting change detailed in said review, which existing rumours and leaks had not picked up on. With the OnePlus 5's dual-sensor camera, one of the sensors has a zoom lens, however, for the OnePlus 5T it has been replaced with a sensor tailored towards low-light capture and portrait mode capabilities. This is an f/1.7 aperture sensor with a 20MP resolution (identical in these specs to its twin in the dual-array), it doesn't have its own OIS module, however.

Testing for the review showed that when an environment's ambient light hits 3.5 lux (that's pretty dark) the OnePlus 5T will switch to this newly re-jigged second sensor to assist with the low-light capture. Sample photos show it's pretty capable too, with the review comparing it with the OnePlus 5 side-by-side, the OnePlus 5T is clearly superior when the lights go down.

In the images below, the OnePlus 5T is on the left, and the OnePlus 5 on the right - the image series gets progressively darker from studio lighting (1100 lux) down to 10 lux and then 3 lux.

The review also concluded that the bokeh and portrait modes are not big improvements over the OnePlus 5.
