Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 are now out in the wild. Reviews for the handsets have been solid and Samsung has had an impressive 2017 financially, posting record earnings for the period.
As one of the busiest brands in tech, though, the work never stops and now the company is hard at work developing the Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy S9; the latter of which will launch in Q1 2018.
We’ve already seen quite a few leaks for both the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9, but the latest is about what the Galaxy Note 9 is being referred to internally. According to reports from Korea, the Galaxy Note 9 is being referred to as Crown internally.
Similarly, the Galaxy S9 is apparently codenamed Star. Both names are pretty bullish and show Samsung is keen on coming into the market and dominating the space during 2018. And early leaks about the handsets show that this could well happen, as both sound rather impressive.
Why Crown? Simple: Samsung is aiming to tighten its grip on the phablet space by making its Note device the only game in town with BIG advancements to its specs, features, S-Pen, design, and functionality.
2018 could also be the year we FINALLY see Samsung unveil its new flexible phones as well as fingerprint sensors embedded inside OLED panels. The latter is something Apple failed to do in 2017, so Samsung has it all to gain in 2018 with being first to market with this technology.
Expect big form factor changes, new features, improved imaging, and, potentially, some flexible designs.
Exciting times.
