The original Sonos Play:1 was a rather epic little speaking that packed in excellent sound performance inside a beautifully designed speaker that could sit anywhere inside your home and look great.
I have two in my house and use them most days. But the latest edition to Sonos’ fold of speakers takes what made the Sonos Play:1 great and adds in a voice-functionality via Amazon’s amazing Alexa assistant – the one found inside Amazon Echo and Dot.
The Sonos One, as it is now known, keeps much the same design as its predecessor, though the design is slightly softer on the eyes. The most important new addition is Alexa, as it means you can now talk to your Sonos speaker and get it to play music, turn the lights on and off in your home, and order you an Uber, amongst other things.
Here’s a breakdown of its features:
- Start and control your music with your voice. Amazon Alexa built right in.
- Play songs, check news and traffic, control your smart home and enjoy all those other helpful Amazon Alexa skills using a single Sonos speaker.
- Ask Alexa to play music from Amazon Music, Spotify, Pandora, iHeartRadio, TuneIn and SiriusXM. Listen to hundreds of other streaming services with the Sonos app.
- Connect wirelessly with other Sonos Home Sound System speakers to play music in any or every room.
- Enjoy surprisingly rich, room-filling sound from a smart speaker.
- Pair two Sonos Ones together in the same room for instant stereo sound. Cannot be stereo paired with other Sonos speakers
And because it is now Black Friday/Cyber Monday, you can pick up the SONOS One for less than normal; it’s currently retailing for $174 – down from $200 inside Amazon.
So, yeah… if you’re looking at doing some early Christmas shopping, this should definitely be on your radar, as it is one of the best Christmas presents a person could ask for!
