It wasn’t long ago that there was just one version of a console to choose from once you’d decided on PlayStation or Xbox.
Not now though; this is 2018 and the console market has taken after the smartphone market, both Microsoft and Sony have taken a "give ‘em a better and best option," approach.
In the case of Microsoft’s Xbox line that means choosing between the Xbox One S and the Xbox One X. Though there are quite a few differences between the two units, the primary ones are that the Xbox One X is the higher-end model: it’s got more speed and support for 4K HDR gaming.
But if you’re reading this we suspect you already know that (and probably own one). If you do, here are some tips and tricks you may not know you can do with your Xbox One X console.
Stream Xbox One X Games To Your Windows 10 PC
I know you love your console, but sometimes it’s nice to play games on your PC. With the Xbox One X you can stream Xbox games to your Windows 10 PC as long as they are both on the same Wi-Fi network.
All you need to do is enable streaming on your Xbox One X by going to Settings>Preferences and select "Allow game streaming to other devices”.
Next select "Enable the SmartGlass connection from any SmartGlass device.”
Now on your PC install the Xbox App and launch it, then select any game that’s stored on your Xbox One X to play right on your PC desktop!
Wirelessly Migrate Your Old Xbox One Data To Your New Xbox One X
Moving to a new console is a pain most of the time because you can lose so many settings - but Xbox One X makes it easy.
First, simply make sure your old Xbox and new one are on the same wireless network.
Then, on your old Xbox, go to Settings > System > Backup and Transfer > Network Transfer.
It’ll look for your new Xbox One X and your data transfer will begin.
Keep in mind it may take a while as a wireless transfer of massive amounts of data can be slow, but it's the convenience that’s the cool trick here.
Continue Playing A Xbox 360 Game On Xbox One X
Speaking of older Xboxes….everyone knows the Xbox One X is capable of playing many of the best Xbox 360 games, but the Xbox One X also allows you to continue playing a game you started on your Xbox 360 console over on your Xbox One X.
To do this you’ll need to enable cloud saving on your Xbox 360.
Go to Settings>System>Storage>Cloud Saved Games and select “Enable”.
Now next time you play the game on your Xbox 360 and save it select "Cloud Saved Games" as your save location.
Now the saved game file will be uploaded to the cloud and will be accessible when launching the same game on Xbox One X.
Note that you’ll need to be an Xbox Live Gold Member for this to work.
Take A Screenshot Of A Game
Have you ever been mesmerized by the amazing and beautiful graphics in an open world game (hello Red Dead Redemption), or just wanted to brag about your awesome kills in an MMORPG?
Well the Xbox One X allows you to quickly and easily take a screenshot of whatever game you are in.
To do so just press the Xbox button on your controller and then press the X button on the gamepad. A notification will confirm your screenshot was snapped.
Take A 30-second Video Clip Of Gameplay
Likewise, you can record 30-second video clips of your awesome antics in your games. To do this double press the Xbox button on your controller and then press the Y button on the gamepad. A notification will confirm your clip was recorded.
Switch Back And Forth Between 4K and HD
Since many games aren’t 4K compatible yet, you won’t always need to have the biggest resolution setting on your Xbox One X active.
Fortunately, Microsoft makes it easy to switch back and forth between 4K and HD resolutions.
Simply press the Xbox button on your controller then go to System > Settings > Display & Sound > Video output.
From here you can set the TV resolution to 720p or 1080p.
Add An External Hard Drive For More Storage
With games now coming in 4K and the Xbox One X’s ability to download and play 4K video files, that 1TB of built-in storage that comes inside the console might not be enough.
Thankfully the Xbox One X supports external hard drive support for more storage.
Simply grab an external USB hard drive and plug it into a free USB port on the back of the console and you’re good to go!
