The OnePlus 6T is coming. Just like the OnePlus 5T, the handset will pick up where the OnePlus 6 left off, adding in some new features, specs, and tweaks.
The OnePlus 6, a phone I am currently using, is one of the best phones around right now. For the price, around half the cost of the iPhone XS, it is essentially unbeatable.
The OnePlus 6T, therefore, should be a rather interesting beast once it arrives. But the OnePlus product line does not end there…
OnePlus Wants To Make A TV?
According to OnePlus CEO, Peter Lau, OnePlus is very keen on expanding its product line to include smart TVs.
“As other consumer electronics have evolved and improved our lives, televisions have remained conventional and cumbersome,” said Lau, speaking to Express.
He added: “For most of us, there are four major environments we experience each day: the home, the workplace, the commute, and being on-the-move. The home - perhaps the most important environment experience - is just starting to enjoy the benefits of intelligent connectivity.”
“Something that seems as simple as displaying the photos from your mobile phone to a television is still difficult to achieve. With the development of AI technology, our imagination is endless – and we are looking forward to the future.”
OnePlus TV – When’s It Coming?
Absolutely no idea! The way Lau speaks about it makes it seem like something they’re actively considering, not actively implementing.
However, as anyone in the tech industry will know: no one says anything without an ulterior motive. If he’s talking about TVs, research and development is likely already underway, and that means we could see something inside the next couple of years.
I automatically think of a 4K OLED TV priced at around half the cost of current models. This is purely based on how OnePlus does phones, but if it can do the same “price magic” with TVs, then I’m sure it’d find a lot of friends.
I don’t know too much about TVs, what goes into designing and making them, but what I do know is this: it’s an incredibly difficult market to operate in – many have tried and failed.
Could OnePlus have something innovative up its sleeve? A cheap, mass-market OLED 4K TV? I have no idea, but the fact that Lau is talking about it openly probably means it is going to happen.
