OnePlus 6 Successor – The "OnePlus 6T" – WILL Launch on October 16

The OnePlus 6T will apparently get a launch on October 16, but how will it differ from the company’s current flagship, the OnePlus 6?

The OnePlus 6 is a very good phone. It’s actually my current daily driver and easily one of my favorite releases of the last 12 months.

But in true OnePlus fashion, there is another iteration coming – and word on the street suggests it’ll be here on October 16.

There have been plenty of leaks about the OnePlus 6T’s launch date; but this latest one via Weibo is the most legit we’ve seen, as it includes actual packaging (see below).

OnePlus 6 vs OnePlus 6T – What’s The Difference?

Normally, phone companies wait 12 months before replacing its flagship phones. This is pretty much par for the course across the entire industry.

OnePlus does things slightly differently though; it started with the OnePlus 3T and has continued from there.

Punters don’t seem to mind either; sales have been on a consistent trajectory: up and up – so the formula, while odd, is certainly working.

Below is a breakdown of the OnePlus 6T’s rumored specs (via BGR):

  • 6.4-inch AMOLED screen, 2340×1080 pixels, 91.5% screen ratio.
  • Light-sensitive fingerprint sensor under the display.
  • CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Soc, GPU: Adreno 630.
  • Rear triple cameras: 20MP+12MP+TOF 3D, 25MP front selfie camera.
  • 6GB/8GB RAM, 64GB/128GB/256GB storage.
  • Oxygen OS base on Android 9.0 Pie.

How they will differ remains to be seen, officially, but early rumors suggest the 6T will feature a slightly larger OLED display, which will include a fingerprint sensor under the display.

The camera will also likely get some attention too; there has been talk of a 3D Dual-Lens sensor on the back, which would be quite a nifty USP for the handset.

The main thing, however, appears to be the display – it’s larger and better than the panel on the OnePlus 6. Fewer bezels, better detail, and, of course, that built-in fingerprint scanner.

If all of this lines up and turns out to be true, OnePlus could have a very compelling handset on its hands.

Not only would it be the first to implement an on-screen fingerprint scanner inside the display, but it would also have a dramatically improved camera with more features.

And for anyone rocking a OnePlus 5T, the phone will almost certainly be worth the upgrade.

In this respect, OnePlus’ business model makes a lot of sense; it knows it has users on T models and ones on whole number models. With this in mind, it has effectively created two types of user cycles.

Attach a great price, which is a given, and you’re looking at plenty of long-term brand loyalists that’ll patiently wait 6-12 months in between updates for their new handset.
