Say hello to the Xperia XA3 and Xperia L3

Sony may be taking a battering in the world of smartphones but that hasn't put the company off releasing a long line of devices, and we appear to have had our first look at the firm's 2019 budget offerings already.

OnLeaks has apparently found evidence that the Xperia XA3 and Xperia L3 are on their way, and leaked specs from MySmartPrice give us a good idea of where these two new blowers fit in the Android sector of the market.

The Xperia XA3 apparently boasts a 5.9-inch screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio and 2,160 x 1,080 pixel resolution. As has been the case with many other Sony phones, the power button – mounted on the side of the handset – doubles as the fingerprint scanner. The phone's forerunner, the Xperia XA2, had a rear-mounted scanner, so it's nice to see Sony return to one of its previous design ideas, which will make this more unique when compared to the competition.

Inside, the Xperia XA3 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 and could boast up to 6 GB of RAM. 64 GB of internal storage is apparently on the cards, too – and the phone will be rocking a fancy USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm headphone socket. Excited yet? Well then feast your eyes on this; it's also believed that the XA3 will ship with Android Pie from day one. One final point of note is that the device is believed to also have a camera shutter button, which will please dedicated mobile photographers.

Next up is the Xperia L3. Based on a report from PriceBaba, the L3 has a 5.7-inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and HD+ resolution – the exact resolution isn't known as yet. Like the XA3, this phone is also believed to have a power button which doubles as a fingerprint scanner, and will have a 3.5mm audio jack. It is rumoured that the L3 will have plastic bodywork in order to keep costs down.

Both of these phones will be announced at CES in 2019, and in terms of pricing, we'd imagine they will be roughly the same as the XA2 and L2 – $350 and $250 respectively. These are not flagship handsets, but with Sony struggling to make itself known at the top end of the market, who can blame the company for focusing on the budget sector for success?
