The iPhone XS Max is a beast in every sense of the word; not only does it possess the biggest screen ever witnessed on an iPhone, it also packs in loads of power, a raft of amazing features and much more besides – and it still looks drop-dead gorgeous. However, if you want those looks to ensure you're going to need to invest in some kind of protection (especially as the XS Max is a slippery device at the best of times). With that in mind, we've pulled together some of the best cases available right now, for your viewing pleasure.
UAG Plyo iPhone XS Max Tough Protective Case
Boasting reinforced 'Air-Soft' corners and an 'optimised honeycomb structure' for top-level drop and shock protection, the Urban Armour Gear Plyo case is perfect for those of you who lead active lives and, for one reason or another, tend to drop your phone a lot. The unit we've reviewed comes in 'Ash', which is more like 'transparent black' if you ask us, but you can't deny how sleek and sturdy this case is. It makes the phone easier to grip as well, but doesn't bulk it out too much.
Ted Baker iPhone XS Max Mirror Folio Case
Without wanting to come across as sexist, this one does seem to be aimed at people of the female persuasion. Still, it's probably one of the most attractive cases we've seen for any phone, thanks to the combination of floral patterns and rose gold plastic. There's even a mirror inside the flap so you can check out your makeup in-between meetings. Apologies in advance if it seems like we're typecasting the potential customer base for this product. Ahem.
Olixar Farley RFID Blocking iPhone XS Max Executive Wallet Case
It might not be real leather but this attractive case certainly looks the part, and thanks to the inclusion of not one but two RFID protected credit card-sized slots, it can be used to store your cards as well as your phone. The interior has a soft-touch lining so your phone is kept in pristine condition, while the inner plastic frame ensures strength and sturdiness. The only shortcoming is that the faux-leather on our review unit scratches quite easily; it doesn't 'age gracefully' like proper leather does.
Ghostek Exec 3 iPhone XS Max Wallet Case
Rather an unusual one, this. We've seen loads of wallet cases on the market that cover the front of the phone, but this effort from Ghostek only covers half. The cases mixes thermoplastic polyurethane and polycarbonate to create a protective frame, and while the strange 'half cover' wallet looks odd initially, we liked the fact that it leaves the top of the display exposes so you can see the time and notifications. There's space for some cards, too.
Olixar NovaShield iPhone XS Max Bumper Case
If you hate the fact that most protective cases completely cover your phone, then this is the case for you. There's a black protective frame which runs around the edges of the device, but on the back, it's completely transparent, which means that all-important Apple logo is on full display for the world to see and be envious of. It's a bit of a fingerprint magnet and we slowly drove ourselves insane trying to ensure that no smudges were on either the back of the phone or the inside of the case, but once it's on it looks rather lovely.
Mujjo Full Leather Case
Famous for its leather cases, Mujjo is back with this lovely looking effort. Available in tan, olive and black, the full leather case is simple and elegant, wrapping your precious phone in protective leather but doesn't make it really feel any bigger. This is proper leather, too, so it ages wonderfully. It's a little on the expensive side, but this case will last a lifetime – or at least until you upgrade your phone in a year or two.
Mujjo Genuine Leather iPhone XS Max Wallet Case
Mujjo's other famous case is this one, which is very much the same as the Full Leather option but comes with space for your credit cards. The slot for the cards adds some bulk as you might imagine – even more so when you've got a couple of cards in situ – but it's a handy little space to have, especially if you're trying to go cash-free and only have a couple of bank or credit cards.
Olixar Manta iPhone XS Max Tough Case with Tempered Glass
Sold alongside a tempered glass screen protector, this is the case for those of you who take no chances when it comes to device protection. It's a monster of a case which has a hard plastic back and rubberised edges, giving your phone a suit of armour that should repel anything life can throw at it. There's also a handy kickstand on the back for those times when you fancy watching a bit of Netflix on the train.
