Oh boy, the Pixel 3 is one handsome phone – we said as much in our review. It's a lovely device which pretty much has the 'pocket-sized' sector of the smartphone market all to itself now that Apple has gone 'full phablet', and represents a solid option for Android purists who love the 'pure' UI experience.
And like a great many flagship phones on the market these days, it's a fusion of metal and glass, with the latter aiding wireless charging. This sadly means that even a small drop onto a solid floor is going to see the Pixel 3 come off significantly worse, so a case is one thing you'll want to invest in almost immediately. Here are some of your best options.
Google Pixel 3 Case
The official option is this fabric-style case, which is similar to the Pixel 2 offering released to widespread acclaim last year. It uses a tightly-knit fabric material to provide both grip and protection, and makes the phone look super-classy – even better than when it's clad in a leather case, in fact. On the downside, it's quite expensive at £35 and over time the fabric does show more wear and tear than other materials – but despite this, it comes highly recommended. There are some great designs available, too.
Olixar Ultra-Thin Google Pixel 3 Gel Case
At less than £8, this cheap and cheerful offering is perfect for those who simply want to protect their investment without covering it up and obscuring its features. The transparent texture means you can still see the Pixel 3 underneath the case itself, and it grants just enough resistance to ensure that scratches and bumps don't mark your phone. It won't, however, be much use if you drop the Pixel 3 from a considerable height, so keep that in mind.
Eiger North Google Pixel 3 Dual Layer Protective Case
Comprised of TPU and polycarbonate, this unique dual-layered case offers superb all-round protection without bulking out the phone too drastically. It also showcases a raised bezel so the screen isn't marked when you lie the Pixel 3 face-down on a table, while the black colouring means it's subtle and not too in-your-face. We quite like the dot texture as well, which increases overall grip.
UAG Monarch Google Pixel 3 Protective Case
At £45, this is at the top-level when it comes to phone protection, but UAG's products have a fearsome reputation when it comes to security. The bulky design won't be to everyone's tastes but the case's five (yes, five) layers of protection mean that it surpasses even military-grade testing procedures, making this the perfect case for clumsy Pixel 3 owners who are at risk of fumbling their expensive new smartphone.
Obliq K3 Google Pixel 3 Leather Style Wallet Case
Wallet cases offer loads of benefits over standard cases, as they allow you to carry around important cards and protect the phone's display when it's not in use. This feature-packed option is no exception, and even has a cut-away on the earpiece so you can hold a conversation when the case itself is closed.
Olixar Farley RFID Blocking Google Pixel 3 Executive Wallet Case
If you want to keep your cards and phone together but don't want a case which covers the screen, you can opt for this alternative. There's space on the back of the case for your important cards (protected by RFID blocking, too) but the Farley itself is thin and light. While it's faux-leather and not the real deal, the texture aids grip and is capable of taking light punishment without damaging your phone.
UAG Plyo Google Pixel 3 Tough Protective Case
If the UAG Monarch is too expensive (and bulky) for your tastes then you might want to check out this alternative option, which still provides the protection the company is famous for but boasts a more streamlined design which shows off the lush lines of the phone beneath. The corners are protected by reinforced 'Air-Soft' technology which offers excellent drop and shock protection.
VRS Design Crystal Chrome Google Pixel 3 Case
This transparent case uses TPU and Polycarbonate to create a level of protection which ensures your handset remains in pristine condition, yet it doesn't make it look like an ugly brick. Each corner has its own air cushion protection so drops don't cause any damage, while the slim-and-snug design means it doesn't add too much to the Pixel 3 in terms of thickness.
Zizo Bolt Google Pixel 3 Tough Case & Screen Protector
This is like the Swiss Army Knife of Pixel 3 cases; not only does it offer military-grade protection against drops and bumps, it comes with a tempered glass screen protector (these usually cost extra), a belt clip for when you're out and about and even an integrated kickstand for those times when you fancy binging on Netflix when you're on a camping trip. We also like the lines on the back of the case, which dramatically improve your grip.
Rearth Ringke Onyx Google Pixel 3 Tough Case
If you value protection but want your case to look appealing at the same time, then this is one to consider. The brushed metal texture looks fantastic, making this one of the rare occasions where the Pixel 3 actually looks better with the case on than off. The Ringke Onyx offers improved grip but for those times when you simply can't help dropping it, the military-grade protection – certified by the MIL-STD 810G - 516.6 drop test, so we're informed – comes in very handy indeed.
Thanks to Mobile Fun for supplying the Google Pixel 3 cases used in this feature.
