Samsung previously used the 'Edge' brand to add a little extra zing to its Galaxy S range, with 'Edge' phones using a unique curved screen design to set themselves apart from the flat and boring competition.
When the company released the Galaxy S8 it ditched the Edge line, as its new Infinity Display was more focused on offering as big a screen area as possible – and it has slightly curved corners anyway.
However, according to UK online retailer Mobile Fun, Samsung could be reviving this short-lived name as part of its Galaxy S10 range. The news – which Mobile Fun says comes from an official Samsung supplier – covers the final names for the three initial Galaxy S10 variants coming early next year.
These include the Galaxy S10 Lite (the budget model) and Galaxy S10 Plus (the big one), which we were already aware of. However, the interesting tidbit is that the 'standard' Galaxy S10 is being referred to as the Galaxy S10 Edge.
In the leaked images we've seen so far, there doesn't seem to be anything unique about the Galaxy S10 Edge to justify this bold branding; it would seem that it has the same basic screen design as the S10 Lite and S10 Plus. However, we've not had a proper look at the device yet outside of renders, so we could be missing something here.
However, if it is very much the same basic design shared across all three phones, then Samsung is being a bit cheeky by including the 'Edge' branding here; it could lead to some fans assuming that the pronounced curve screen is back for good. Of course, another explanation could be that the official supplier in question has simply made a mistake, and the standard Galaxy S10 will simply be known as the Galaxy S10.
The same retailer has also made it known to Mobile Fun that the official case line-up remains largely unchanged in 2019; we're still getting the popular LED View cover, but this year there's also an 'LED Cover', which Mobile Fun assumes will have the LED display on the back of the case.
More info relates to the colour options for next year, with Berry Pink, Yellow and Green hinting that Samsung may have taken a leaf out of Apple's book and will be giving its fans some iPhone XR-style colours to play with.
The final piece of news is that Samsung is planning on shipping the Galaxy S10 models with a screen protector already installed – a fact that will upset the many companies out there which sell aftermarket protectors to accident-prone consumers for a premium price.
