If there's one thing about modern smartwatches which could be a lot better, it's stamina. Most watches are so packed with cool features that they require charging at least once a day, which means if you forget to pop you watch on its charging stand each night, you could be out of juice the following day. Even if you're conservative with your watch usage, certain activities – such as fitness tracking – will drain your battery faster than normal.
To solve this issue, tech firm Togvu has created the Batfree, an Apple Watch strap for the Series 2, 3 and 4 variant. This silicone strap contains two 300mAh Li-polymer rechargeable batteries and a wireless charging pad, which add around 27 hours of usage. All you need to do is press the button on the side of the strap and it will begin wirelessly topping-up your device.
The band is waterproof with an IP68 rating, and has a cut-away in the bottom so the heart rate scanner still works as normal – a vital consideration for those who rely on their Apple watch for fitness tracking. At 100g, it's also lightweight, so it's not going to make your watch feel too heavy.
On the downside, the case looks quite bulky and makes the Apple Watch stand out from your wrist – if you're the kind of person who worries about accidentally hitting your watch against things when you're walking around, this might not be the product for you. We also think that some Apple fans might find the design a little too basic.
Still, for £35 – the current price of the Batfree during its Kickstarter campaign (which it smashed after just 12 hours) – isn't bad at all, especially when you consider that it can add more than a day of extra use. If you're constantly annoyed by the poor staying power of your watch then this is well worth a look.
