Using the Internet used to be simple and safe. You could load pages in nothing but plain text, which meant that functions like JavaScript and Java weren’t being used. You didn’t have this haunting feeling that someone was just waiting to invade their way into your computer by way of malicious software to steal your information. In addition to that, there wasn’t as much of a need to make sure that your computer had the latest updates. Most operating systems and the software provided was safe.

The difference between now and back then is the fact that people didn’t use their computers for every single thing that made it possible to live their lives. Online banking hadn’t been invented yet, e-commerce websites hadn’t been dreamed up yet, and very few websites relied upon tools that could give hackers free access to your computer. The Internet was a safer place because it was simpler.

Now, you have to worry about malware being on every page that you load on your computer. It’s everywhere. The most used websites like blogs and personal websites are the most likely to host malicious software.
