Looks like Sony is about to join the phablet market with a bang. A really big bang. Rumours and photo leaks over the last few weeks have suggested that Sony has been working on a 6.44-inch monster phablet previously codenamed the Sony Togari but now being called the Sony Xperia Z Ultra. Whether you agree with the phablet’s enormous size, measuring just 6.5mm deep and sporting features like a Snapdragon 800, Android 4.2 and a 1080p display, it is still an impressive piece of kit.
The latest hint at the imminent release of the Xperia Z Ultra is an invite that has been sent to some French, German and Chinese media which features the side profile of an Xperia device, a stylus, and tells receipients of the invite to “note” the date in their calendars. While the “note” the date in your calendar might just be a play on words (or possibly not even), the event is likely related to the Xperia Z Ultra due to the side profile, which features the audio jack on the side of the device, and the stylus. The date to be saved is the 4th of July, so not long to wait to see what’s up Sony’s sleeve.
6.44-inches seems like one hell of a phone, but judging by the reaction to the Galaxy Note 8.0, there might actually be a decent market for oversized devices that can make calls. What are your thoughts on the Sony Xperia Z Ultra? Let us know in the comments below.
