HTC One Google Edition ROM arrives

News Clare Hopping 08:34, 28 Jun 2013

A ROM for the HTC One has arrived, allowing you to get all the Google Edition features on your device

The HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition were launched in the US yesterday, but now you can get the same functionality on your Sense-branded HTC One too.

The HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition include a number of new features, including Android 4.2.2, a new camera UI and both lose the manufacturer skins.

Although TouchWiz and HTC Sense 5.0 make the devices decidedly more manufacturer-esque, the overlays can sometimes make the device run slower.

HTC has already announced the possibility of allowing current HTC One owners of de-branding their devices, but now a ROM is available to strip the handset of anything HTC, including the Blinkfeed.

The flash works on any GSM HTC One (read: any UK-network version) and is available to download onto the HTC One via XDA Developers.

The features, according to the website, include:

  • Stock Android 4.2.2 w/ Google Apps

  • New Camera UI with improved thumb controls

  • Wifi and BT are working

  • Beats Audio toggle in sound settings

  • Tbalden 4.2.2 kernel

To install the ROM on your HTC One, you will need to use a Custom Recovery tool such as TWRP or CWR.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 flash hasn't been released yet, but it is hoped the update will be coming soon, meaning you don't have to wait for the stock Android devices to arrive on the UK Google Play Store.
