A Tweet from AdDuplex’s Alan Mendelevich reveals the Lumia 520 has nearly doubled its worldwide market share in one month. The Lumia 520 launched in April and by May had achieved a 4.4 per cent share of the Windows Phone installation base, indicating to analysts that around one million devices had been sold during the period.
Now Medelevich’s Tweet suggests in the May to June period the phone has doubled its share to around eight or nine per cent in its second month on sale – that could indicate it’s already at two million.
This might seem like small potatoes when you compare to Samsung’s record-breaking 10 million sales in a month since the launch of the Galaxy S4, but for a Windows Phone device this is a very fast rate of adoption. It’d suggest that consumers looking at the lower-price bracket find Windows Phone 8 very attractive in terms of offering value for money.
AdDuplex is planning to publish a full report by the end of the week which should give us a clearer picture, but no doubt Nokia is already pleased as punch at the news and is probably already looking at how to further tap that vein of low-cost enthusiasm.
