The Twitter Music app for iOS has been updated, with th most notable changes flagged as new charts and new genres.
First up, new charts have been added including Alternative, Country, Dance, Electronic, Folk, Hip-Hop, Metal, Pop, R&B, and Rock.
In the Charts section, you'll also find Superstars, Unearthed and Hunted are now included, where there used to only be Popular and Emerging.
The Next Web flagged the changes, alongside the changelog that says:
Genres! Get hip-hoppy or get your metal on or get your dance beats grooving with Twitter #music genres! Tons of genres plus Superstars, Popular, Emerging, Unearthed and Hunted charts.
This build also includes:
- Fixes for some scenarios that could cause tracks to be unavailable.
- Rdio authentication now happens in-app, rather than kicking you out to Safari.
- We have stomped many bugs so that you don’t have to.
Twitter Music for Android has clearly been put on the backburner, which seems odd as there are more Android phones in circulation that Apple devices worldwide.
Twitter Music was launched earlier this year for both iOS and on the Twitter website.
According to Twitter, the service ' uses Twitter activity, including Tweets and engagement, to detect and surface the most popular tracks and emerging artists. It also brings artists’ music-related Twitter activity front and center: go to their profiles to see which music artists they follow and listen to songs by those artists. And, of course, you can tweet songs right from the app.’
If you subscribe to Rdio or Spotify, you can just log into your account and enjoy tracks from both catalogues.
Twitter has changed its service a lot recently, as it tries to diversify. You can now add video in addition to photos to your posts thanks to Vine integration and it's said the company is experimenting with live event streaming too.
