HTC has announced on its UK Facebook account that the Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 update is now rolling out to HTC One owners on our (currently) sunny little isle.
- HTC One S Android 4.2 and Sense 5 update petition started
- HTC One S Android 4.2 update may be under consideration
‘The Jellybean 4.2.2. update for the HTC One started rolling out in the UK from today. Download it now: Settings > About > Software Updates > Check now,’ reads the official social networking post.
We’d previously heard that the update was rolling out in Taiwan and elsewhere in Europe but this is the first definite confirmation that it is hitting UK HTC One devices.
It’s not just unlocked SIM-free models which are being bumped up either, network carrier locked HTC One handsets are experiencing the joy with multiple respondents on HTC’s post saying they’ve received the update on Orange, Vodafone and O2. There’s currently no word on Three, EE or T-Mobile.
The other branch of the user comments naturally centres on the other phones which haven’t been updated yet, such as the HTC One X, HTC One X+ and other members of the family.
HTC has previously announced that it will not be updating the HTC One S to the latest version of Android and current users have been riled enough by the news to start a petition on change.org. At time of writing the petition currently has 6,828 signatures.
Android 4.2.2 doesn’t add any major new features or functionality over the base Android 4.2 build itself, but it does fix some bugs, tweaks a few UI elements to be more useable and responsive, and generally makes everything a bit more reliable.
Here’s a full list of changes you can expect should you get hold of the build on your HTC One (or indeed, any other eligible Android phone).
- Fixed Bluetooth audio streaming bugs
- Long-pressing the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth icons in Quick Settings now toggles the on/off state
- New download notifications, which now shows the percentage and estimated time remaining for active app downloads
- New sounds for wireless charging and low battery
- New Gallery app animation allows faster loading
- USB debug whitelist
- Bug fixes and performance enhancements
