Nokia Future Capture competition aims to find developers to exploit Lumia 1020's camera functionality

Nokia has thrown down the gauntlet to developers by setting a challenge to hack its recently launched Lumia 1020 handset.

The Nokia Future Capture competition invites those with 'development credentials' to submit ideas for apps and hacks that get the best out of the 1020's 41-megapixel camera by the end of July.

Entrants are permitted to send in three ideas each with Nokia selecting the 10 best to feature in a hackathon to be held in August.

Winning entrants will be taken to Sweden to work alongside a team of mobile photography experts to realise their concepts, as well as receiving a Lumia 1020 or VIP treatment to a future Nokia event.

Ideas are not just limited to the Nokia Lumia 1020's camera - developers can submit creations that make use of the device's Camera Grip tripod peripheral.

In other Lumia 1020-related news, images of the wireless charging case mentioned at last Thursday's launch event have surfaced on the web. The photographs come via PureViewClub.com and depict what looks like a polycarbonate outer shell that snaps onto the device to allow charging when placed on a wireless charging mat.

It's apparent from the images that the case minimises the notable bulge created by the camera module on the rear of the device, although the protrusion is still visible.

Word on pricing and availability hasn't been forthcoming from Nokia but it's expected that the peripheral will go on sale alongside the device in the US on July 26, with other territories to follow soon after.
