Nokia has announced it will be rolling out the Nokia Pro Camera app, seen aboard the new Lumia 1020 41-megapixel PureView handset, to existing PureView Lumia devices, specifically the Lumia 925 and Lumia 920.
The existing models may not carry the Lumia 1020’s impressive 41-megapixel sensor but they do still use some advanced optical image stabilisation and a hefty 8.7-megapixel lens. So, Nokia sees these devices as being just as worthy to receive the Nokia Pro Camer app, which allows more precise control of key photography settings you’ll typically find on a DSLR camera. Users will be able to tweak focus, ISO, shutter speed, exposure and white balance using a whole new interface.
Nokia is encouraging Lumia PureView owners to get creative with Nokia Pro Camera and has demonstrated how you can, for example, adjust the exposure and shutter speed to create artistic shots with light. Longer exposure time means someone can write a message in the air using a torch in dark conditions and you’ll capture it all.
‘You can capture the trails from cars on a dark road at night, or do light painting with a pair of glow sticks or a lamp. Place the phone securely, take the picture and you can draw light patterns in the air. This is something that no other smartphone will do. There will be lots of fun low light experiments that you can try,’ said Nokia’s Marcus Olsson, lead program manager for Nokia Pro Camera.
The Nokia Pro Camera app will be rolled out to the Windows Phone Store for existing Lumia PureView phones but they will require the Nokia Amber software update first. For readers in the US the Lumia 928 is compatible with the new app.
