The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 could come in as many as four different variants

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 may be launched with as many as four different variants, following in the footsteps of the company’s recent range of Galaxy S4 spin-offs.

According to reports, the range will include a premium model a lower-end ‘budget’ variant which could perhaps be likened to the Galaxy S4 Mini in terms of price and spec difference.

The word comes via Korean news site ETNews, which reports that each variant will have different specs. Allegedly the highest-tier model will be a ‘Limited Edition’ iteration built from ‘high-quality materials’ and packing a 13-megapixel camera. It’s also thought to have a ‘shatterproof’ AMOLED touch display.

All other variants will be made from plastic, the fact that this is being specified suggests the Limited Edition could be made from metal or, if previous rumours are correct, carbon fibre. The second-to-highest grade model appears to be the regular Galaxy Note 3 version as it will be made from plastic and feature a normal Super AMOLED display. It will still pack a 13-megapixel camera.

Rank number three will have the 13-megapixel camera and an LCD touchscreen while the lowest-grade model will be the same but with an 8-megapixel camera.

Internal specs are thought to remain consistent across the board though, including processor, RAM, onboard storage and connectivity. What’s not clear is if any of these will be spin-off variants as with the Galaxy S4/S4 Mini/S4 Active. There’s no mention of rugged, waterproof versions, smaller models or ones with optical zoom lenses so far.

Frankly we find this all rather dubious anyway.

The Galaxy Note 3 is rumoured to have 3GB of RAM onboard and will allegedly ship with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 or Snapdragon 800 chip in Europe, the UK and North America, while Samsung’s own Exynos 5 Octa eight-core processor will be handling things for the models distributed inside Asia. Rumours about the display vary with some suggesting a panel between 5.9 and 5.7-inches. Speculation has also pointed to optical image stabilisation (OIS) for the 13-megapixel camera setup.

Currently the Galaxy Note 3 is believed to be on track for a launch on September 4 in Berlin, Germany, just a couple of days before the IFA conference where its predecessors were announced in 2012 and 2011 respectively.
