Video Supposedly Of New Low Cost iPhone Turns Out To Be Ad For Android Imitation

basic bear Having only just seen renders of the low-cost iPhone this week, it turns out there has already been an imitation made of it, and most ironic of all is that it runs Android. The video below alleges to be a video hands-on with the new low-cost iPhone, looking very Apple-esque with its brooding music and close-ups. At the end of the video however, it becomes apparent that the video is actually an ad for an imitation device called the “Basic Bear” that uses the low-cost iPhone body, but runs Android Jelly Bean.

Now, for any Apple fans reading this, it’s likely that this isn’t the actual low-cost iPhone and is actually just another imitation device with “iPhone” printed on it, though it does look quite convincing based on the renders that have surfaced over the last few days. Furthermore, the text on the back cover looks nothing like Apple’s typical inscriptions.

The Basic Bear, which is presumably manufacturered in China, actually looks to have quite decent specs, including a Snapdragon 600 at 1.7GHz, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage and 2,300mAh battery. Also, it apparently costs only $199 and is available in 5 colours, presumably pastel colours. For anyone that’s shocked or amused, this actually isn’t the first time that the iPhone has been imitated even before the device has been released

Before the iPhone 5 was even released, the GooPhone i5 was on sale in China (see above). Looking a lot like the device that would eventually release in September 2012, GooPhone even went as far as filing a patent for the design and tried to block the sale of the iPhone 5 in China. Needless to say, that probably didn’t go too well, even if the internals were nothing like the iPhone. We’ll see if the Basic Bear has to deal with any of these lawsuits in the future.

Let’s get everyone’s thoughts on the Basic Bear, and weigh in on this whole imitations business. Think its bad business, or just a little bit ironic? Let us know what you think in the comments.
