Nokia's Windows RT tablet, codenamed Sirius, will launch on September 26 priced similarly to the iPad

Nokia’s rumoured and leaked Windows RT tablet now has a codename and is temporarily dubbed ‘Sirius’, according to reports which also say it’ll have an iPad-like price tag.

The news comes via The Verge, citing sources ‘familiar with Nokia’s plans’. The report says that the leaked image already circulating the web is a prototype model and that the actual design will be much closer to Nokia’s Lumia Windows Phone brand in terms of design. We have to say the leaked prototype already looked distinctly Lumia-y, so it’ll be interesting to see precisely what that means.

The sources claim Sirius will be thinner and lighter than the current fourth-generation Apple iPad and will feature brightly coloured bodywork. As per previous rumours, the display will be a 10.1-inch panel with a 1920x1080 pixel resolution while running gear will be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core chip with 2GB of RAM.

There’ll be a 6-megapixel camera on the back panel and a 2-megapixel secondary for video calls and the like. Nokia is planning to squeeze 10 hours of battery life alongside 4G LTE connectivity, microSD, 32GB of onboard storage, microUSB and micro HDMI.

It’ll also allegedly come with a keyboard dock with a further battery boost, similar to the Asus Transformer tablet. The Verge’s sources say the device will be priced ‘comparatively with Apple’s iPad.’

It’s claimed Nokia has plans for a launch event in New York on September 26 which could see the Sirius unveiled. More as we get it.
