Microsoft announced a boat load of features at its BUILD conference at the start of last month, the main announcement being Windows Phone 8.1. It announced all the new features which will come with it but failed to bring an actual release date.
It’s going to start officially being rolled out on June 24, potentially the same time as the Lumia 930 becomes available. How do we know the date? That’s when Microsoft’s software support will begin.
Microsoft has also revealed it will keep to its dedication of supporting the software for three years. Here’s what the company states on its official site.
"Microsoft will make updates available for the Operating System, including security updates, for a minimum of 36 months after the lifecycle start date. These updates will be incremental, with each update built on the update that preceded it.
"Customers need to install each update in order to remain supported. The distribution of these incremental updates may be controlled by the mobile operator or the phone manufacturer from which you purchased your phone, and installation will require that your phone have any prior updates.
"Update availability will also vary by country, region, and hardware capabilities."
Windows Phone 8.1 brings the introduction of a notifications bar and Microsoft’s Cortana voice assistant. To learn more about Windows Phone 8.1 and its new features head over to this piece here.
We don’t have a confirmed date for the Lumia 930 yet but we think it’ll be released around the same time as Windows Phone 8.1 becomes available as it's poised to become Microsoft and Nokia's flagship for the new OS version.
