The OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T are already getting Android Oreo, but OnePlus has plans to bring it to the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T in short order.
When it does, it'll introduce a standard set of Oreo features including picture-in-picture and notifications dots. However, there's another feature coming the OnePlus 5 with the new software; Face Unlock. Yes, the OnePlus 5 will be imitating the Apple iPhone X with the ability to unlock your phone just by letting it scan your face. Of course it's not as fancy as the iPhone's 3D scanner as it just takes 2D image data.
The feature is already present on the OnePlus 5T aboard Android 7.1.1 Nougat, but Oreo will unlock it for the regular OnePlus 5 as well. It's expected that as per the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T updating schedule, both the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T will update to Oreo at the same time. According to reports from users who have tried the OnePlus 5T face scanning it allegedly works very well, but OnePlus itself confirmed ahead of the launch that it was not as secure as Apple's equivalent.
