Whichever way you slice it, the OnePlus 5T is the best value smartphone you can buy right now. It’s over 50% cheaper than the iPhone X and a solid $300 less than most of the other big players.
With this in mind, it is easy to see why OnePlus would snub Black Friday. I mean, how much less could it charge for a phone and still make money?
I’m not aware of the company’s profit margins, or how much it makes on a phone, but considering Apple’s iPhone X costs less than $300 to make and retails for over $1000, I’m guessing it’s no way near as high as Apple’s.
The OnePlus model is different to how the more established players do things though; for starters it sells direct to its customers, cutting out the middlemen. On top of this, it built its business on an invitation-only model, meaning it could control production costs more effectively.
In addition to this, it spends WAY less on advertising than Apple and Samsung, as it targets, predominantly, social media and free types of advertising in order to build its brand.
Here’s what OnePlus said about why none of its phones featured in Black Friday:
Our goal is to share good technology with the world. That’s why we price our devices fairly year-round, so that you don’t have to double check the math. Say no to Black Friday price games.
Mind games are tiring for everyone. (A great line for your Tinder profile.) We prefer to keep the focus on making good products to share with the world. In order to do so, we have to make some money in the process. At the same time, our users would like to save some money.
This is where fair pricing comes in. Cut through the BS. Keep things simple. We make money to fund our product and feed the team. You save money and get the best user experience, whether it’s Black Friday or Taco Tuesday.
So pick-up your OnePlus 5T today at basically the same price – just $0.01 off. We’ll throw in our Dash Power Bundle at 50% off for 24 hours. We can do that much. You won’t get a huge price slash or rebate on this device today if you order today. You’ll just get the best device we’ve ever created and the immense satisfaction that you’re supporting a smartphone that is changing the way our industry works.
The OnePlus 5T is now available and it is bloody excellent. Even more so when you factor in how much it costs – £429! And for that type of money, nothing else comes even remotely close to achieving what OnePlus has with the 5T.
