The HTC One has reportedly jolted the company’s revenue since it launched in April, but is the flagship going to assist with a complete recovery?
HTC’s April revenue has increased with sales topping $19.6 billion (£12.6 billion) for the month of the HTC One’s launch. Sales for the year so far have reached $62.4 billion (£40.1 billion). While these increased figures are somewhat encouraging, HTC’s performance in April 2012 was 37 per cent higher at $31 billion (£19.9 billion), according to DigitalTrends.
Revenue for the April period was, however, up 26 per cent over the company’s performance in March, strongly suggesting the HTC One is largely responsible for such a turnaround. It’s also a positive early sign of the phone’s popularity. It’s already fared well with reviewers and early adopters alike and if HTC can continue this performance in the coming months it stands a good chance of pulling itself out of the mire.
As usual, the biggest obstacle for HTC is increasing its brand awareness past just the tech enthusiasts and into the realm of Joe Public. It needs to increase its profile and sit up there with Apple, Samsung, Nokia and BlackBerry as one of the go-to manufacturers for the average users.
That’s going to be quite a job for advertising and marketing to accomplish, and is something which hasn’t worked so well in the past despite the strength of HTC’s products – it lacks marketing clout.
Previously HTC spoke about its new marketing strategies revolving around more in-depth deals with carrier networks. It’s difficult to see how that’s panned out, however, in the UK at least it would appear only Phones4U’s web store is prominently displaying the HTC One on its homepage. Many others appear to be putting Samsung’s Galaxy S4 in a more visible position.
